Humanities
The Primary Humanities curriculum which will be implemented is based on the current General Studies curriculum. Most of the content is reorganised according to the existing topics of General Studies and enriched with elements of Chinese culture, national history and national geography. The curriculum covers the following six strands:
- “Health and Living”;
- “Environment and Living”;
- “Financial Management and Economy”;
- “Community and Citizenship”;
- “Our Country and Me”; and
- “The World and Me”.
The enrichment aims to keep pace with the times and systematically cultivate students’ sense of belonging to our country, national sentiments and sense of national identity for the implementation of Patriotic Education. Through diversified enquiry and experiential learning activities, students are encouraged to connect learning with their daily lives to acquire a wide range of learning experiences.
Primary Humanities aims to help students:
- To grow up healthily with a positive mindset, becoming a confident, rational and responsible citizen
- develop their understanding of individuals, families, our country and the world; teach them the importance of obeying the law and contributing to our country and the world
- understand our country’s history, geography, culture and development, fostering national identity and a sense of belonging to our country
- be aware of local, national and global development and the connection between the three
- learn to care for the environment through sustainable development so as to promote sustainable living
Subject features
- Using English as the medium of instruction.
- Through cross-curriculum learning, we nurture students’ humanistic qualities and help them develop generic skills to aid lifelong learning
- Using various teaching and learning methods, including Project Learning Week, Outdoor Learning Day, exhibitions and seminars to broaden students’ horizons
- Using diverse assessment methods to enhance the efficiency of teaching and learning, as well as using assessment data to give feedback
