Weather Guidelines
Tropical Cyclones and Heavy Persistent Rain Arrangements
Excerpts from the Education Bureau Circular:
- In the event of tropical cyclones and heavy persistent rain, appropriate public announcements will be made by EDB through radio and television to inform parents if attending classes is required. (*Hong Kong Observatory always issues the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals and Rainstorm Warning Signals before 6:15 a.m. Please listen to radio or television broadcasts on the latest warnings before 11:00a.m.)
- When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8or above, or RED or BLACK Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued before 6:15 a.m., all schools will be closed for the whole day. When AMBER Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued, all schools will operate as usual unless EDB has made special announcement on closure of schools.
- Parents should decide whether or not to send their children to school at the time of inclement weather according to the local weather, roads, and traffic or transport conditions.
- Students will not be penalised if they cannot return to school or arrive late in the event of tropical cyclones and heavy persistent rain. Alternative arrangements for tests and examinations will be made for the students.
When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3or belowis issued, school is to operate as usual.
Other Arrangements:
(1) During normal school hours, if Signal Pre-No. 8/ No. 8 will be issued shortly, suspension of class may be considered by EDB. The School will arrange students to return home under safe conditions. Parents are advised not to come to school immediately to bring students home.
(2) When a RED or BLACK rainstorm warning signal is issued after 8:00 a.m., unless suspension of class is announced by EDB, the School should continue the lessons until the end of normal school hours Students should stay in school until conditions are ensured as safe to leave and return home. Parents are advised not to come to school immediately to bring students home.
(3) If students have already arrived at school when the announcement of suspension of class is made, arrangements will be made to ensure students to return home safely. The school premises will remain opened to students who remain in school under the care of our staffs while waiting for their parents to fetch them home. Parents in this case should come to school immediately to bring their students home.
