Aims

  • To provide every learner of English as second language with opportunities for extending the knowledge and experience of cultures of other people as well as opportunities for personal and intellectual development, further
    studies, pleasure and work in the English speaking environment.
  • To enable every learner to prepare for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology; these demands include the interpretation, use and production of materials for pleasure, study and work in the English medium.

 

Focus

The English department at CSSHK is committed to cultivate a rich and enjoyable environment for students to learn English. Thus, we have introduced a variety of thematic teaching programs to enhance students’ learning experiences.

 

Read Write Inc. Programme (RWI)

The RWI Program is a synthetic phonics-based program implemented in key stage one. It ensures early success in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

 

From Reading to Writing

This programme introduces various types of fiction and non-fiction reading materials to students in Primary 2-3. Beside reading, students will be guided to do different types of authentic writing activities using the content of the books.

 

The World of Roald Dahl

The World of Roald Dahl’ is a literature programme that  revolves around 5 titles of the popular children’s book author. A variety of classroom activities are implemented to help students explore the many faces of literature.
